These Terms explain how you may use altitudehere.com (the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms.

1. Privacy & Data

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data. In summary, the Site runs in your browser, and your position goes only to the services that provide the height, the place name and the map. The coordinates in a shared link also reach Cloudflare and our server logs.

2. The Service

The Site is a free tool that shows the elevation above sea level of your current position, of coordinates that you enter, or of a point that you select on the map. We may change, add or remove features, or stop the Site, at any time.

3. Not for Safety-Critical Use

Do not rely on the Site for navigation, aviation, mountaineering, emergencies or any other decision where a wrong altitude can cause harm. Always use certified instruments and follow local guidance.

4. Accuracy and No Warranties

The Site is provided “AS IS” without any warranties. We make no guarantees about accuracy, reliability, or availability. For example:

  • The elevation comes from third-party height data, which has its own margin of error.
  • Your position comes from your device. It can be wrong by many meters, especially indoors, between tall buildings or with a weak signal.
  • The Site shows the height of the ground at a position, not your height above the ground, for example on an upper floor of a building.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damages arising from your use of the Site.

5. Third-Party Services and Data

The Site uses these services, which have their own terms and can change or stop without notice:

  • Elevation data: Open-Meteo, based on the Copernicus DEM (© DLR e.V. 2010–2014 and © Airbus Defence and Space GmbH 2014–2018, provided under COPERNICUS by the European Union and ESA)
  • Place names: BigDataCloud
  • Map: OpenFreeMap, with map data © OpenMapTiles and © OpenStreetMap contributors

We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability.

6. Acceptable Use

You must not use the Site for illegal purposes, send automated requests in bulk through it, harm the Site, or attempt to interfere with its operation.

7. Using Our Content

  • All text, code, images, and other material on this Site (“Content”) belong to us or our licensors.
  • You may use the altitudes that you look up for personal or commercial purposes. If you publish them, credit the data sources in section 5.
  • The source code and design of the Site may not be copied, modified, or redistributed.
  • The open-source libraries and fonts that the Site uses keep their own licenses.

The Site may link to external websites. We do not control or endorse them, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.

9. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Site or violation of these Terms.

10. Ending Your Access

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, for any reason.

11. Changes to These Terms

If we change these Terms, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If you keep using the Site after a change, you accept the new Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any disputes will be subject to the courts of Málaga, Spain. This does not limit any mandatory consumer protection rights that you have under the laws of your country of residence. If a court finds a part of these Terms invalid, the other parts stay in effect.
